Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is the leading genetic killer of infants and young children. It is a terminal, degenerative disease that results in the loss of nerves in the spinal cord and the weakness of the muscles connected with those nerves. SMA impacts the ability to walk, stand, sit, eat, breathe and even swallow. The mind and spirit are no different from that of a healthy baby, but the body eventually fails. Typical babies with SMA Type 1 have a life expectancy of between one and two years and they require around-the-clock medical assistance and monitoring.

• 1 in every 40 people UNKNOWINGLY carry the gene responsible for SMA

Italian Sausage and Peppers!

Italian Sausage and Peppers Recipe

Ingredients

8 links Hot or Sweet Italian Sausage
2 Red Bell Peppers discard seeds and slice into 3/4 inch strips
4 medium sized Yellow Onions, sliced into strips
2 to 3 tablespoons Olive Oil
1 tablespoon Oregano
2 tablespoons Parsley
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1/2 cup of Red Wine

Directions

Broil, grill or pan fry sausage, until well browned

Place sliced peppers and onions into a saucepan over medium heat, top with oregano and parsley, sprinkle with salt and black pepper, wine and then drizzle with your olive oil.

Be sure to stir this mixture every few minutes and continue to cook until the peppers and onions and soft but not mushy. Add sausage, simmer.

Serve with your favorite pasta or on a roll and enjoy with a glass of vino.
